The
site of this 24 unit wood-framed senior cooperative apartment
building abuts a Catholic church on one side and conservation
land and single family homes on the other.
An
elongated "H-shaped" plan configuration was devised to present
a short entry elevation to the street approximately the size
and scale of a large single family residence. A combination
of clapboard, porches, dormers and shutters create an architectural
vocabulary which reflects the building's residential neighborhood.
The
long side of the elongated "H" faces the neighboring church
and defines formal garden spaces in the courtyards within the
"H." Parking is kept to the rear of the site, screened by the
building and landscaping. Formal common spaces are located on
the first floor associated with the main entrance. Wellness
and clinical program spaces are located on a lower garden level,
as is a community meeting room for part-time use by the church.
